Virginia School District buys food truck to feed students for free in summer

A school district in Virginia is truly making a difference in its students lives this summer. Danville Public Schools bought a food truck to incorporate into their summer feeding program.

An average of 140 to 160 students per day have been fed from the truck so far. Since 2014 the district has been feeding students during the summer. Originally there were 3 different schools in the district students could go to. Now the fourth truck is their fourth location.

Lunch is served from the truck at two locations, Monday through Thursday until August 1st. If you’re not a student, you can purchase a meal for $3.65 but if you’re a student you eat for free. The school district also delivers meals to the Boys & Girls Club, bible groups and other programs. During the school year, the district plans to use the truck as an alternative place for students to get lunch, instead of going to the cafeteria.
