Wealthy philanthropists are donating millions to climate change activists

Almost half a million pounds have been donated to Extinction Rebellion and school strike groups by a group of wealthy US investors and philanthropists. Millions more are supposed to be donated in the next few months. Aileen Getty and Rory Kennedy have partnered with investor and philanthropist Trevor Neilson to launch the Climate Emergency fund. You may recognize a couple of the names I just mentioned. Aileen Getty’s family has made a lot of $ in the oil industry and Rory is the daughter of Robert Kennedy.

The money will first be used to support school strike and Extinction Rebellion groups in the US. So far some of the money has been committed to fund the groups in NY and LA. Climate change activist and Swedish teenager Greta Thunberg inspired Neilson to start the fund. Over the next few weeks, the three will use their contacts of the “mega rich” to get more. Environmentalist Bill McKibben is on the advisory board.
