Mackenzie Bezos Pledges To Give Half Her Billions To Charity

Mackenzie Bezos received over $35 billion in her divorce from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, making her one of the wealthiest women in the world. Now she has signed the Giving Pledge, committing to give over half of that to charity or philanthropic causes.  The Giving Pledge is an effort created by Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett. It is an effort where the world’s wealthiest people make a public dedication to giving the majority of their wealth to philanthropy. Those who join generally write a public letter explaining their decision to join. Here’s what Mackenzie wrote in hers that was just published: 

“I have a disproportionate amount of money to share. My approach to philanthropy will continue to be thoughtful. It will take time and effort and care. But I won’t wait. And I will keep at it until the safe is empty.”
