The U.K. broke a renewable energy record this year

Countries around the world are shifting to renewable energy for a more sustainable alternative. The UK has broken a new record for clean energy. According to new data from the government, 47% of the U.K’s electricity generation  came from renewable sources. Last year the U.K. hit a record of 39% renewable energy in the first quarter.

The electricity being used in the UK comes from their wind farms, solar panels and hydro power plants. Bio energy is being generated by burning wood chips instead of coal. Wind power accounts for most of the electricity used in the first quarter. 30% of electricity used came from wind power. Just last week, Britain set a new record of being coal-free for 2 months.
