Bronx kids get new summer camp in honor of teen who lost life

Bronx leaders and the Fresh Air Fund have partnered to create Camp Junior. Starting this summer, the camp will offer free programs to Bronx kids at Harriman State Park. In memory of 15 year old Lesandro “Junior” Guzman Feliz, who lost his life in a Bronx bodega last summer, the camp is for both boys and girls between ages 9 and 13. The camp will provide them recreational and educational activities, including an anti-violence curriculum according to Bronx president Ruben Diaz Jr.

Construction has already begun and State Parks will invest $2 million over two years into the summer camp. Their goal is for the camp to serve 500 children this summer and up to 1,000 every summer after.
