Los Angeles is building the worlds largest wildlife crossing

Los Angeles is about to do something never done before. Engineers are designing the worlds largest wildlife bridge in the world.  The corridor will extend over US highway 101 and will connect different parts of the Santa Monica mountain China. Costing $87 million, the bridge is especially crucial to the mountain lions.

According to a report published this year, mountain lions are at risk of going extinct within 50 years. They have a hard time socializing for mating, which is crucial for their survival. The bridge is designed to blend into the mountains so that animals don’t realize they’re on a bridge at all. Not only is this good for mountain lions but also for big cats, coyotes, deer and more! With support from Leonardo DiCaprio and $13.4 million raised from private donors, the bridge is underway and in its final design stage. Wildlife crossings are common in Western Europe and Canada but not as much in America. The designers behind this bridge are hoping that will change.
